Great Days Out by Bike

We’ve come up with a choice of easy, fun and interesting days out for you to enjoy by bike. Don't worry about getting lost. We've designed easy to follow route cards so you don't nead to be an expert map-reader!

Ness Islands and Caledonian Canal

Escape the city and get into the river (not literally). The Ness Islands are a group of forested islands brimming with wildlife and linked by a network of old iron bridges. This is a favourite spot for a picnic or simply admire the skill of the anglers, casting their flies in pursuit of the elusive salmon. The flat towpath of the Caledonian Canal offers great views of the river and the city beyond. At Dochgarroch you can watch the lock-keeper guide the leisure craft and occasional fishing boat, through the locks.

Culloden Battlefield and Cawdor Castle

Explore the famous battlefield before hopping on your bike and freewheeling down to the prehistoric burial cairns at Clava. Enjoy the panoramic views as you make your way to the fairy tale Castle of Cawdor and its gardens. It’s then back along the picturesque Nairn Valley to the battlefield where we’ll be waiting to hear all about your day out.

Culbin Forest

Culbin Forest lies just east of the historic village of Nairn. Once we’ve got you comfortable on your bike you’re free to explore the network of traffic-free cycling tracks through Culbin Forest. Here you’ll discover secluded beaches, massive dunes and wildlife reserves.
